Join us for an informative session with Natalie Harnett from the City of San Luis Obispo to learn how our local elections work—and what’s changing.
San Luis Obispo’s City Council is the legislative body that helps shape decisions affecting our day-to-day lives. It includes one Mayor and four Council Members, with elections held every two years.
Beginning in November 2026, the City will move to a Citywide Single Vote system for Council Member elections. Voters will choose one candidate, and the top two candidates will be elected. This updated approach is designed to be simple, inclusive, and give every voter a voice in every Council election.
The Mayoral election will remain the same.
This is a great opportunity to better understand how your vote works, what these changes mean, and how you can stay engaged in local decision-making. Come with questions and leave feeling more confident about participating in the future of San Luis Obispo.
